Privacy policy

Last Updated: July 20, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Get Good at Badminton ("GGAB", "we", "our", "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our application and services (the "Service"). Please read it carefully. If you do not agree with this policy, do not use the Service.

For privacy questions or to exercise any of your rights, contact us at support@getgoodatbadminton.com.

1. Who We Are

Get Good at Badminton ("GGAB") is a service operated by Shan Enterprises Inc., a corporation incorporated in the Province of Alberta, Canada. References to "we", "our", and "us" in this Privacy Policy refer to Shan Enterprises Inc. We provide a video review, tagging, and analytics platform for badminton players and coaches.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

Information you provide directly:

  • Account information: email address, password (stored hashed), and any profile details you choose to add
  • Subscription and billing information (processed by Stripe; we do not store full payment card details)
  • Match data, rally tracking inputs, shot tracking inputs, annotations, and notes
  • Video content that you upload for analysis, including any audio captured in those videos
  • Health and wearable data, if you choose to connect a wearable or health platform (see Section 6)
  • Support correspondence

Information collected automatically:

  • Usage data (features used, interaction patterns, session timestamps) via our analytics providers (Google Analytics on the web, PostHog in the mobile app)
  • Device and browser information
  • Approximate location derived from your IP address (via Google Analytics)
  • Server logs, including IP address, for security and debugging

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain the Service
  • Process your match and video data to generate analytics, tracking results, and insights
  • Train, develop, and improve our own machine learning models that power tracking, shot detection, and other analytical features
  • Communicate with you about your account, support requests, billing, and product updates
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, abuse, and security incidents
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. Human Review of Video Content

You should be aware that human members of our team may view user-uploaded video content. Today, this is limited to the company's two founders, who may view video for the following purposes:

  • Reviewing tracking and analytical accuracy
  • Debugging and improving features
  • Investigating support issues you have reported
  • Building, evaluating, and improving our machine learning models
  • Investigating suspected violations of our Terms of Service

We do not view video for any purpose other than operating and improving the Service. As we grow, additional employees or contractors may need access to video content for these same purposes. When that happens, every such person will be bound by written confidentiality obligations and, where required, a data processing agreement, and will only access video on a need-to-know basis.

If you have specific concerns about video review or wish to flag content as particularly sensitive, contact us at support@getgoodatbadminton.com.

5. Machine Learning and AI

Use of your data to train our models. We use video and match data uploaded to the Service to train and improve our own machine learning models, including tracking and shot-detection models. Trained models learn general patterns from many users' data and do not store or reproduce individual videos. Once a model has been trained, it retains the patterns it has learned even if you later delete your account or your data; however, we will not use your raw video, identifiable annotations, or personal data in any future training runs after deletion.

Third-party AI processing (Anthropic). Some features rely on Anthropic's API to generate AI-powered insights. When you use these features, relevant data which may include video, video-derived data, or match data is sent to Anthropic for processing. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, Anthropic does not use customer inputs or outputs to train its models. Anthropic processes the data only to return a response to our request.

Your right to object. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you have the right to object to processing based on our legitimate interests, including training of our models. To object, contact support@getgoodatbadminton.com. We will honor valid objections and stop using your data for training purposes.

6. Health and Wearable Data

If you choose to connect a wearable or health platform — for example Whoop, Garmin, or Oura (via our wearable-data processor, Terra), or Apple Health / Google Health Connect on your phone — we collect health and fitness data such as sleep, heart rate, heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, workouts, steps, calories, and related measurements like blood oxygen, respiratory rate, body temperature, and weight. Connecting a wearable is entirely optional, and the operating system asks for your explicit permission before any health data is read.

We use health data for one purpose only: to compute and show you your own readiness, recovery, and training-load metrics inside the Service. Health data is never used for advertising or marketing, never sold, and never shared with data brokers. Data read from Apple Health (HealthKit) or Google Health Connect is used only for these health features and handled in accordance with Apple's and Google's health-data policies. It is processed by Terra and stored with our infrastructure providers listed in Section 8; no other third party receives it.

You can disconnect a wearable or revoke health permissions at any time in the app or in your phone's settings, which stops further collection. Health data already collected is deleted when you delete your account, or earlier on request to support@getgoodatbadminton.com.

7. Legal Bases for Processing (EU/EEA and UK Users)

We process your personal data on the following legal bases under the GDPR and UK GDPR:

  • Performance of a contract to provide the Service you signed up for
  • Legitimate interests to improve the Service, train and improve our own models, ensure security, prevent abuse, and communicate about the product
  • Consent for any processing where we ask for it explicitly
  • Legal obligation where required by law

8. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share data only with service providers strictly as necessary to operate the Service, and each is bound by a contract that requires them to protect your data.

9. International Data Transfers

GGAB is based in Canada, and our infrastructure and service providers are located primarily in the United States. By using the Service, you understand that your data will be transferred to, stored in, and processed in countries outside your own, including Canada and the United States.

For users in the EU/EEA and UK, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission as the safeguard for cross-border transfers.

10. Cookies, Analytics, and Tracking

On the web, we use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how the platform is used, plus server-side event tracking via the GA4 Measurement Protocol to record subscription and payment events.

In the GGAB mobile app, we use PostHog for product analytics. This is limited to explicitly named feature events (for example, that an upload started or a wearable was connected) tied to your account. There is no session recording, no autocapture, no advertising identifier, and no cross-app tracking — analytics data is never shared with other companies for advertising.

You can opt out of Google Analytics data collection using Google's opt-out tools. To opt out of mobile analytics, contact us at support@getgoodatbadminton.com.

11. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit, encryption at rest, access controls, and authentication requirements. No system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Data Breach Notification

If we become aware of a personal data breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify affected users without undue delay and, where feasible, within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach, in accordance with applicable law.

13. Data Retention

  • Account and match data is retained for as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion, personal data is removed from active systems within 30 days.
  • Health and wearable data is retained while the connection is active and is deleted with your account, or earlier on request.
  • Video content is retained as long as it is associated with your account. Deleted videos are removed within 30 days, subject to backup overwrite cycles.
  • Trained models retain learned patterns; raw and identifiable data is not retained in or after training.
  • Google Analytics data is retained per Google's default retention setting, currently 26 months.
  • Billing records are retained as required by applicable tax and accounting laws, typically 6 to 7 years.

14. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights:

  • Access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, and withdrawal of consent

Canadian users have rights under Canadian privacy laws, including PIPEDA and, where applicable, PIPA Alberta. EU/EEA and UK users have rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR and may lodge a complaint with their local data protection supervisory authority.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@getgoodatbadminton.com. We will respond within 30 days.

15. Children

The Service is not directed to children. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. If your uploaded video contains minors, you are responsible for obtaining all necessary consents from those individuals or their parents or guardians before uploading.

16. Bystanders and Third Parties Visible in Videos

Videos uploaded to the Service often capture people other than the account holder. You are responsible for ensuring you have the necessary rights and consents to upload video that contains other identifiable people.

If you appear in a video uploaded to GGAB by someone else and wish to have it removed, contact us at support@getgoodatbadminton.com and we will work with you and the uploading user to address your request.

17. California Residents

If you are a California resident, you have the rights described above and the right to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA.

18. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to active users by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect.
